OKIMAW HUMAN RESOURCE (HR) TRAINING INSTITUTE
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program
The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program is a comprehensive training initiative designed to support employers, HR professionals, supervisors, and safety officers in building and maintaining a safe, healthy, and productive workplace. This program equips participants with the knowledge and tools needed to reduce workplace hazards, promote employee well-being, and ensure compliance with applicable health and safety legislation.
Who Will Benefit?
In today’s fast-paced work environments, the well-being of employees is not just a regulatory obligation—it is a cornerstone of organizational success. This program focuses on three key pillars: Occupational Safety, Health Benefits, and Prevention Programs, providing a holistic understanding of how to protect workers and foster a culture of care.
What You Will Learn:
Day 1
OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY
Topics Include:
Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of workplace safety practices, hazard identification, risk assessments, and incident response. The program covers essential elements such as:
Understanding the roles and responsibilities under health and safety laws
Conducting workplace inspections and risk analyses
Implementing safety policies, controls, and emergency procedures
Reporting, investigating, and documenting incidents and near misses
Supporting return-to-work programs after workplace injuries
Special attention is given to sector-specific hazards, including those in construction, manufacturing, office environments, and community-facing roles.

Understanding employee entitlements such as workers’ compensation and mental health leave
Designing health benefit strategies that support wellness and resilience
Integrating health promotion programs with existing benefit packages
Encouraging early intervention and access to health supports before crises emerg
Participants will also explore how inclusive benefits—such as mental health supports, culturally safe services, and flexible accommodations—can reduce absenteeism and increase retention.
Day 3
PREVENTION PROGRAMS
Topics Include:
Prevention is the foundation of any successful occupational health strategy. This program teaches participants to:
Develop proactive safety training and awareness campaigns
Design wellness initiatives that reduce risk factors (e.g., fatigue, stress, ergonomic strain)
Foster employee involvement through Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSCs)
Establish data-driven safety metrics to monitor performance and improve practices
By focusing on early warning systems and building a prevention-focused safety culture, organizations can significantly lower their incident rates and strengthen employee trust.
