ABOUT US

Our Value

Proposition

At Okimaw, we deliver practical, culturally grounded solutions that drive real results for First Nations and Indigenous organizations. Our team combines deep Indigenous knowledge with modern expertise in human resources, organizational development, and workforce training. We build lasting relationships by listening first, tailoring every service to meet community priorities, and walking alongside our clients on their path to self-determination and success.

Who We Are

Okimaw Community and HR Solutions is a proudly Indigenous-owned firm dedicated to supporting the growth, strength, and self-determination of First Nations and Indigenous organizations across Canada. Rooted in traditional knowledge and driven by modern expertise, we specialize in human resources, organizational development, and workforce training that reflect the values, priorities, and goals of the communities we serve. Our team brings decades of experience working alongside Indigenous governments, non-profits, and businesses to create practical, culturally relevant solutions that deliver real impact. At our core, we believe in building strong relationships, empowering people, and supporting the long-term vision of Indigenous sovereignty and nation building.

Okimaw offers a wide range of programs designed to support community and organizational growth. Our services include professional development training, organizational development support, and strategic planning facilitation tailored to Indigenous contexts. We also provide expertise in economic development and Comprehensive Community Planning (CCP), helping communities define their vision, set achievable goals, and create clear, actionable plans rooted in their culture, values, and aspirations.

Our Commitment

At Okimaw, our commitment is to walk beside communities — not ahead of them. We listen, we learn, and we lead together. Every service we offer is rooted in respect, guided by culture, and built to empower Indigenous people to thrive on their own terms. As an Indigenous woman and proud Cree Nation member, I carry the teachings of my ancestors into every space I enter. We honour the spirit of each Nation we work with, recognizing that the path to self-determination is unique to each community. Our work is not just professional — it’s personal, it’s relational, and it’s grounded in the belief that when we lift each other up, we all move forward together.

Truthfulness

We acknowledge and accept personal responsibility for our decisions and actions. We abide by the laws, rules and regulations relating to our business activities.

Kindess

We expect and give kindness in how we conduct ourselves and in how we treat each other. Kindness is a value we uphold even when things have gone wrong, or we must take difficult actions.

Where We

Work

Okimaw has proudly worked with staff and leadership from over 200 First Nations across Turtle Island, from the west coast of British Columbia to the heart of Quebec. We’ve helped Nations recruit and train their workforce, develop HR systems, conduct strategic and organizational planning, expand businesses, and build their own governance and legal frameworks.

We’ve travelled by plane, train, automobile, skidoo, boat, and every road imaginable to sit with communities, understand their goals, and support them in advancing their full sovereign interests. Whether we’re welcoming a new Chief and Council or helping launch a Nation-owned business, our work is guided by respect, partnership, and a deep commitment to Indigenous self-determination.
